Something to Think About
What Are You Chained To? PDF Print E-mail
By Rev. Peter Cusick

The story is told of two travelers, who were driving in the southern states and had car problems-- their muffler fell off.  It was past closing time for most places, but they noticed an old junkyard that was still open.  Their arrival, noisy to say the least, was noticed by the owner.  The owner came out sucking on a piece of straw.  "Well, boys, we're closin' so y'all have to wait til' tomorrow."  As the travelers interacted with the owner, they convinced him to let them rummage through the wrecks, find an appropriated muffler, install it themselves, and then pay then owner. As agreed, they shook hands and the two travelers entered the junk yard looking for a muffler.

Does God Exist? PDF Print E-mail

Pick any object that you can hold in your hand and we can do a little test-- or play a little game.

I'm choosing to hold in my hand my ipod-touch.  There are four possibilities for my ipod-touch's existence.  First, my ipod-touch could simply be a figment of my imagination-- that is, it doesn't really exist-- I only think it exists-- it is nothing but an illusion.  Second, my ipod-touch is actually self created-- it actually created itself.  Third, my ipod-touch has always existed and has the quality of being eternal. So, there was never a time my ipod-touch did not exist.   Four, my ipod-touch was created by someone or something else.

My love affair with the station wagon started back in about 1982.  My father-in-law was buying a new vehicle and sold me my first wagon-- a Pontiac Safari  station wagon.  What a fine machine it was.  This was followed by a Buick wagon, with the 'fake wooden side panels,'  and a huge engine-- a  405  with a carburetor (can we say gas-hog?)  My last wagon, which I brought here 17 years ago was another Buick wagon.  That wagon took us out east on holidays as well as a family trip to Florida, just prior to moving here to St Thomas.

Divine Explanations PDF Print E-mail

On some occasions, I like sitting down and watching a football game.  I actually like the CFL game better than the other one-- on the other side of the border.  When I have had the odd conversation with a football player I politely ask: "What position do you play?"   They tell me they play "tight-end" or "halfback".  I smile thinking-- 'Hmm.  I assume that's somewhere on the field.'   If I were interested in learning all the positions, names, and various responsibilities of the game of football, the best person to ask and learn from is a football player.  I wouldn't sit and talk with a tennis player or a bowler-- I want a football player interpreting the football game for me.
