God's Ego and Human Rebellion PDF Print E-mail

I like dogs--especially ones that do not live in my house.   We have had dogs as pets, but now we are 'pet-less.'  Here's three dogs I have some connection with.  I have a neighbor whose dog likes me.  Well, actually, I'm thinking she could care less about me--it's the doggie treats she gets when she sees my garage door is open and I'm in there.  Then both my sons have dogs and they seem to like me as well.  Again, it may have something to do with the walks in the bush--or, going through the Tim Horton's drive through for plain-cake Timbits.  Dogs have been hailed as man's best friend.  Some people even believe that All Dogs Go To Heaven.

Some dog lovers stop at nothing.  You can get your doggie blessed at certain churches.  You can buy doggie insurance, doggie coats for when it's cold outside, get your doggie cremated at his death and buy a plot at a doggie cemetery.

Which leads me to some deep theological questions:  Does God like dogs?  Does God have a pet dog?  What kind?  How big?  Are God's best pants covered in dog hair?  If God does have a pet dog, how does He treat the dog?  If God doesn't have a pet dog, I'm at least certain of this:  He made doggies.  However, I also believe that doggies and humans are on different levels in God's mind.

Here's one of the reasons why doggies and humans are different;  the dignity that God affords humanity is a dignity not afforded to doggies.
God actually allows mankind to 'stiff' him.  God wouldn't let a dog do what He lets humans do.   God allows himself to be stiffed by man's rebellion.  God allows this because God is not ego-centric.  He is not a power monger.  You can stiff God without diminishing His ego.  So, often people ask this question:  "If there is a God, then why doesn't He show up and slap some bad guys around--show us who's really the boss?"  Simply, Because He is not like us.  He doesn't have an ego problem.  He doesn't have a need to flex His muscles.  He is just so far above all that stuff!   And that, is something to think about.
